Harold and the Purple Crayon’s 60th Anniversary

A little boy with a purple crayon sparked the imagination of children everywhere 60 years ago.  Today, children are still inspired to create their own adventures with blank pages, a crayon, and their imagination.  October 20th also celebrates the anniversary of Crockett Johnson’s (David Johnson Leisk) birthday.  Crockett Johnson was a cartoonist and children’s picture book illustrator, but is most famous for writing Harold and the Purple Crayon and the Barnaby comic strip.

Come celebrate Harold’s birthday with us in the Children’s Department by creating your own purple crayon drawing, signing Harold’s birthday card, and checking out the Harold display.
