Children’s Poetry Workshop

University of Mount Union English Society members will be conducting a Poetry Workshop in the Children’s Program Room of the main library on Saturday, January 23, from 2 to 3 p.m. The English Society members will share the poetry of Shel Silverstein and Dr. Seuss with the children who will then take part in a series of fun prewriting activities to give them a basic understanding of the language of poetry and its construction. Participants will mix and shuffle magnetic nouns, verbs, and adjectives, plus use flavored candy or gum to utilize sense of smell, sight, taste, and hearing to create poetry. Children will leave the program with their own bag of magnetic words to use at home and a book of collected poetry from the session.

Limited to 25 participants.  Advance registration is needed.  Call 330-821-2665 ext 223 or stop in the Children’s Department to register.
